* Instruments built with Brazilian Rosewood can not be shipped out of the USA without C.I.T.E.S (and 2008 Lacey Amendment) paperwork. This incurs extra costs and could result in prolonged delays. Hopefully the regulatory agencies involved will clarify these issues soon.
**Please note:** This is a difficult time to be building guitars in the United States. The requirements of the 2008 amendment to the 1910 Lacey (anti-poaching) act, as written, are impossible to meet. The effect is that any who ship any item manufactured from plant or animal materials risk confiscation of the item and a $400,000 fine for each problem discovered in paperwork which by it's very definition is impossible to satisfy. This includes inter and intra state commerce. It is obvious that this puts a bit of a disincentive to ship instruments across state borders.
The instrument building community has been targeted for enforcement of this well intentioned but badly written law. Supplies that were collected for decades have been confiscated with no due process or recourse. While there is some movement towards adding some fairness for certain large US manufacturing companies, the individual Luthiers and small shops remain without protection. It appears that building musical instruments is now a criminal enterprise. Please see http://www.luth.org/cites.htm for further information.
